hey, does anyone know when i replace the maf sensor if i need to reset the check engine light or clear some codes, or will it reset by itself. I had the light on and i know it is the MAF sensor and i got one now all I need is to replace it but i want to make sure if i need to do anything after that. thanks a lot.

CEL and MAF replacement

It is my understanding and personal experience that you have to do nothing if the CEL light is on and caused by a defective MAF. Just replace the MAF. Do a search in this site and you will see "professional" advise about this. Bottom line, if light is not out, it should go out with new MAF. If it doesn't in a short amount of time, have it reset and that's it. The engine computer will take it from there, either way, once the new MAF is installed.

ONE of the great thing about this site are the highly experienced and knowledgable participants who will chime in if they have a different view/opinion.

After a few starts and stops over a day or two, it will go out. However, you can always take it to Autozone and get them to reset it, if you're more comfortable with that.

I reset my codes on the 2000 ml 320 today, and the CE light came on again after 5 minutes. The MB dealership told me that the maf sensor is bad, but there is no difference between my old one and this new one, the still runs like crap, it wont accelerate, it has no power. Did anyone have any problems with their Cats, I think that they don't have a good flow and it sounds like the exhaust is leaking, right after the manifold but before the cat. It is leaking on the exhaust gasket i think. Please, i anyone had the same problem or any suggestions, i would appriciate it. thanks a lot.

I did this on my 2000 ml 430 a few months ago and it took about a week to go out. The computer has to re adjust the air fuel mixture. Trust me it will go out. Has not been back on at all.

hey guys, first thanks to all of you who try to help and i have a even worse problem. the car barely moves it will go up to maybe 15 mph and it is missing a lot. the driver side exhaust makes some kind of noise it sound like it has a leak between the manifold and catalytic converter. i ahve no idea what it is but the car has no power at all.
