A & B Service 9 quarts of oil?? ML320

2000 ML320 75K. I just had an A service and noticed 9 quarts of oil used on the invoice. I check the Oil sensor it reads HI. I called the dealer they said the extra will not hurt. I pulled the old invoices and they use 9 quarts for oil changes since day 1, I thouhgt the capacity was 8.5 quarts.

What gives?

Thanks.

Since MObile doesn't sell a 1/2 quart, some places charge for 9 whole quarts.
However, if they have the oil pumped from a large sump, they should only be charging you for 8 1/2 quarts. All three dealers I have worked for charge by the 1/2 of a quart.

oil level

the capacity in liters is 8.0 which is around 8.4 quarts less than 8.5 or especially 9.0 quarts . if they say it will not hurt, then ask why is there such a warning of overfilling the engine on the oil cap. look at the sheet i have included here, it is straight from mercedes service information, it gives the capacity in liters, your ML has the 112.942 engine and holds 8.0 liters, so the first part applies to you. print this out and take it with you, if you go back, ask to speak with the service manager and ask why have you been over charged and overfilled. i unsestand the 1/2 quart billing, but it should be slightly under filled before being over filled.

Cool

MB issued a bulletin several years ago lowering the M112 engines oil fill capacity to 7.75 Qts, any dealer should have that info!!! OVER filling that & most engines will cause problems!
