PARTS DIAGRAM and #-- 1998 ML320 (W163) sunroof (w/M1 package)
Have a broken plastic clip in the sunroof assembly of our W163 1998 ML320 with. It looks like it guides the linkage rods for the pop up front wind deflector. Can anyone direct me to an exploded parts drawing ? Want to make sure I order the right thing(s). I understand from prior posts that the parts are only available as a complete assembly.
Thanks, Ken |

Ray,
Thanks for the info AND fast response. It was on target! I have bought MB parts diagram CDs before and my experience is that they have been difficult to use and tend to be copies with security barriers to full access to the information. Please send me a private e-mail with any additional info about the items you have for sale. Thank you, Ken |
Sunroof Wind deflector
My dealer insisted the plastic guides and arms for the deflector were not available as separate part and supposedly even checked with the mechanics.
I had to buy a complete new wind deflector assembly. Once I got into it, I discovered not only one broken plastic part (which I "knew" about), but the other side was also close to failure. Now that I see how the design works it's no wonder the part fails. I could not see ANY difference between the original design (1999 ML430) and the new parts. The 2 arms that are attached to each side of the deflector itself came "attached" to the plastic pieces. They were not separate. There is quite a bit of tension on these plastic parts when the deflector is down/roof closed. Part number for the entire assembly was 163-780-00-44. It was made up of one big bag with the deflector itself and another "parts bag" with 2 arms, 2 little retaining springs and an instruction sheet packaged within the big bag. The parts bag did NOT have any numbers on it but it seems to me that was really the only thing I really needed...the bag of parts, not a new deflector. |
Dealer replaced the deflector part about a year ago. Now both sides are broken again. Since I have OEM outside wind deflector, I just removed the built-in one all together. Now I feel assured that I can open and CLOSE the sunroof without much trouble anymore.
Upon close inspection of the plastic arm clips, why on the earth don’t they use a flat head screw to nail the piece in the track? |
