99 ML320 Key problem
I'm living in a north part of Switzerland and I suspect the regional delaer don't have too much experience to put the finger on the problem I have.
I had frequent lost synchronisation in the past. My ML320 '99, had a cycle of 2-3 days working, 2-3 days stopped. I mean ignition no start. Please note: the small light on the head of the anti-theft device blinks, and no error on the mileage display. With both keys. After some time, both key lost also the remote function (open/close doors). good batteries, but that's the situation. I went to the garage, and ordered a new Key from Germany + change that part where we insert the key. Working fine for 2-3 days again. Now I have 3 keys: the old keys 1&2 with, normally, no function, and the third one with good remote but start no ignition. I tried to resync., no result. The car is again to that delaer ( I have some advantages now to go there). Do YOU have some inputs? It sound very weird for me, I didn't see any similar post here...Thans a lot! |
The early "M" class here had all kinds of key(remote entry) problems!
Most times the computer controlling that system(AAM) and the keys had to be replaced as a set! Sounds like you are having that problem as well. |
the computer? this could be very expensive?
|
Not here! The computer/key set lists for around $500, was 1/2 that amount while the cars were under warranty!
|
Thanks for info. Here is more expensive, like all the others. I have a final quick question for you: I saw a general recall 1999110002 DEC 99 regarding 'Erroneous Activation of The Anti-theft System'. I don't have more details on that one. I think I could ask at least the dealer, but do you have an idea if this recall could apply in my case?

same ML320 key insanity
Not sure if this should be new post, but I have the same "turns once, dies" issue, 1998 ML320. Third or fourth occurrence in 4 years of ownership; always bit bullet to buy $120 new key.
Have only now learned of the 8 key limit. Local shop unable to determine why keys fail repeatedly. MB North America advises I must replace the Drive Activation Module at about $2200; local dealer insists I need to replace all locks as well, for total near $4000. Anyone have a firm call on who's right? Hard to fathom MB will let keys fail through no fault of user, then cut off supply of new keys (yeah, fine, for our security...) then hit owner for $2k or more just to have drivable vehicle. Class action suit, anyone? I'm real mad. Steve |
