1998 ml320: Lights out around the 3 center dash dials
These lights just went out. Is there a specific fuse or place to check? It's a pain at night, but I think its something I can live with if the alternative is pulling the dash. How would I change the bulb(s)? Thanks.

Bulbs for A/C display are behind the KNOBS & they just pull off.

When you say "3 center dash dials" do you mean the 3 HVAC control knobs, or the three guage dials? If it is the former, just pull off the center knob, and you can pull out the bul with a pair of foreceps (or similar). Even Pepboys has te right bulb. If it is the gauge cluster, you need to pull out the housing (which is not nearly as hard as it sounds) and the bulbs just twist in on the back. Those bulbs you can usually only find at a dealer, but they are pretty cheap.

It's the hvac dials, not the instrument gauge cluster, and it sounds painless. Thanks for the help. Another $100+ and trip to the dealer saved!! This forum is the best resource.

What am I missing??
I have a 1999 ML 320. The light behind the 3 HVAC knobs in the center of the dash are not working. I bought the 3 new bulbs at the dealer. I went to change them, as instructed in this post, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I pulled the knobs as instructed, but there is a solid piece of opaque glass behind the two outer knobs (no visible bulbs). Behind the center knob there seems to be a bulb recessed so deep I don’t know that I could get it out. Can anyone please shed some “Light” on this for me? I’m not the “Brightest bulb on the string”, but I’ve done far more complicated DIY jobs.
Thanks!! |
How do you get the middle dial, the one you pull off to change the bulb, stay firmly stay back on? I see a metal clip behind the clear plastic when I have the dial off.:confused:
