2001 ML320 occassionally stuck in Park
Several times my 320 has been stuck in park.. I will turn on the engine, press on the brake and it won't move out of park. After turning off the engine approximately 10-20 times and removing the key it would 'magically' work again and go right into the other gears just like normal. I'm thinking something is getting stuck in the top 'exposed plastic' part of the gear shift handle since it doesn't happen all the time. Any ideas??
Thanks, Lance |

If you haven't already done it, do a search on 'brake switch'. There have been many posts over the last few years pertaining to the brake switch used on ML's which signals other systems to any depression of the brake pedal. Since the brake must be pressed prior to moving gearshift from 'Park', I'd check the function of this switch first. Others on this site may well have direct experience with the problem and have some suggestion as to how the switch can be ruled out.
