ml 320 power-breathe deeply

The air box intake seems to be constricted to fewer square inches than the mass air sensor, probably for noise suppression. I put a piece of 2" drain pipe under the existing intake pipe to get as many square inches going in to the air filter upstream side as going out to the sensor downstream. My intake is on the front side of the radiator bulkhead, below the stock one, where the air is colder and ram pressurized. A MAS can accomodate denser air and I think this and premium instead of plus brought me to a better computer map setting as I got 1 mpg plus on my standard highway route.
Next step will be to see if an O2 simulator box will allow disconnection of the back O2 sensors and subsequent converter gutting. I'm betting those resonator thingees behind the converters are just heat traps to warm up the cats and they will go to.
