Turn Signal Sometimes Won't Cancel
 

I have an '02 ML500 and sometimes (once a day) when I make a right hand turn where I unwind the steering wheel slowly....the turn signal won't cancel. I do know that this is relate to a physical component vs an electrical issue. Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the steering column including the turn signal? My car's about to fall out of warranty and since tis doesn't happen everytime...the dealer is not doing anything but saying "cannot duplicate problem" Thanks in advance.

Most likely the switch itself..somewhat common on the ML's

Does your steering wheel exactly center when driving straight ahead? Mine didn't and I found one of the tie rod ends very sloppy. Replacing same brought the steering wheel back to center

Thanks for your replies. I suspect it is the switch itself too, but since the dealer can't replicate the problem I'm thinking this will be something I'll have to pay for when it really goes bad....that is if I keep this thing. I just hate when the dealer basically calls you a liar when every response I get is "can't replicate problem". The steering wheel is centered and I recently had the alignment done.

Turn signal combination switch is going bad.
It's one of the cheapest designs I have ever seen on a vehicle.
Mercedes ought to be ashamed of themselves for using that junky piece of plastic junk.
Hang around and I will tell you exactly what I feel about it.
The steering wheel has to come off as well as the top and bottom plastic junky collars that encapsulate the switch to replace it, and it is the whole turn signal, warning flasher,and windshield wiper assembly all in one.
They are just as bad a design as the window switch assemblies.

Here's a picture of the combination switch thanks to the Mercedeshop online catalog. This part is used in several Mercedes models besides the M-Class, mostly commercial vehicles. I estimate Mercedes bought more than 2 million of them, and at a cost of about $25. The Ignacio Lopez effect. ;) :1blank: :)
