Sunroof open, raining almost all night...
My wife left the sunroof open about 8", and it rained most of last night. What kind of damage should I expect?
In the morning I found not a lot of water, but plenty on the wood console (I just installed a new window switch last year). I am aware that the tranny stick don't like fluids at all. The seats and the carpet looks like absorbed all the water so you cannot see sitting water, but soaked carpets. Should I expect problems with the window switch, console wood lifting, tranny shift mechanism, sunroof mechanism, undercarpet? Or any other problem I am not even aware of? Thanks in advance, Rene

You are lucky to live in FL. I would be more afraid of mold starting under the carpets and sub padding and any smell afterwards lingering in your interior. The shop vac idea to remove as much water as you can is not a bad idea. Perhaps sacrifice a few towels and gently press down to lift some more of the water from the carpets after the shop vac is used might help. If it is warm down there (and not raining for a few days) you will might try giving it a few days to dry faster with the windows cracked open to promote better ventilation inside of the cabin to speed up the carpet and sub carpet padding under it drying out. Good luck and keep a sense of humor. At least it was not like the salt water soaked "salvage" 1978 Lincoln Town Car my boss in high school bought for himself cheap after the blizzard of '78. We removed the carpets and seats and flushed the wiring with fresh water. There was a star fish quite dead that crawled into the interior of that car I removed that we dried out in the shop. After removing the carpets and seats they did not smell too bad considering the ocean swim they had when we put them back in after they dried out. Your car should be fine. John
