Did anyone have problem with their lug nuts on their ml.
 

I tried changing tires today. I broke one of the lug nuts. I use the hands tools supplied with the ml. The nut just keep turning untill I heard a snap. Would not think this was possible.

You think roadside assistance will replace it? :D

Don't know about these ml. At least there are 4 other bults.

The wheel lugs are bolts not nuts, I would think the rest of the bolt would have to be drilled or heated and cooled so it can be removed. It is not a roadside jub!

I was lucky the broken bolt could be removed using just plyers. The standard way to remove a broken bolts is to drill, tap, and then remove. Luckly did not have to do that this time.

Roadside said they no not carry extra bolts (to many sizes to carry). I got one at the dealer for $6.82.

I think the lug bolts are made of softer metal. Once a local tire-shop did a tire rotation for me and stripped the thread on one of the bolts so that it spins and spins in either direction but won't tighten nor come out. Took it back for them to fix they had to re-thread the receiving end and use a new bolt. The tech. who did the work swore he "finger-tightened" the bolt before he used the air-hammer but I think he was using the bolt as a "hanging pin" to hold the heavy wheel therefore stripped both ends of the thread.

You'd think people working with tires and wheels all day long know how to handle mounting and dismounting wheels.

Not to defend the guy, but wheel/tire work really is alot of "bull" work, tough on you, especially truck and even light truck stuff, heavy.

Not to further "defend", but since the ML wheels are "hub centric", you really can't hang a wheel and tire by one bolt, as most (if not all) of the hanging weight is hung from the hub, with the bolt just keeping it from flopping off. Not like the old days when the studs / lug bolts actually were weight bearing.

My first lug bolt set rusted a bit, and MB replaced them under warranty with these black ones which hold up better.
