ML 350 Tail light removal

Hello folks.. I am trying to remove the rear tail light assembly on a 2005 ML350 to replace the bulbs.. I have taken the 2 screws out but can't seem to pull the light away from the vehicle. Are there more clips?

You have to gently yank the light. There is a plastic knob at the end of the light that fits into plastic socket (bushing). The bushing breaks very easily so be careful. The bushings cost a couple bucks to replace if you break one. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, do I yank away from the car or yank towards the rear of the car?

On my 2000 ML 430 I press on each side of the plastic cover close to the glass and then pull the cover away from the tailgate. Should come off real easy.

Just figured it out myself 30 minutes ago (before seeing this post). The bushing is on the lower left (on the left lamp) and right on the right on my 99 ML. Pull slow and steady - it didn't want to come out for me.

Is your g/f easily impressed?

Yes

Thanks a lot. I pulled back gently it came right out... Yes she was impressed, she is/was used to paying those high labor cost at the dealership.. No more..
