ML55 problem

While driving from Houston to San Antonio, my cruise control was engaged at 80mph. The cruise control would not disengage when I pressed the brake several times, like it should. I was able to disengage by pusing the cruise control lever. It was a scary moment. My BAS/ESP turned on and stayed on.
I stopped to get gas. Now, upon starting the truck, the gear would not shift from the park position. Fortunately, I the car manual, I was able to push to manually shift the gear by pushing through the hole on the gear console with a pen. The gear shifts fine from D to N to R and back.
Did I blow a fuse?
What could be wrong?
I have orderd a scanner to tell me the codes but any help would be appreciated.
This is for a 2000 ML55.

Brake light switch. Common problem. That is why the car "electronically" does not know you are hitting the brakes, yet the brakes work. Search the forum as there are dozens of posts about changing this inexpensive, but annoying, little part out.

ML55 brake switch problem

Yes, it was the brake switch.
Replaced it and now I can sift gears.
Thanks
Every so often, my airbag and SRS light comes on and may stay on
and then goes out and may come back again.
Any ideas on that?
Thanks

Been there, done that too. When mine did this, the problem was a faulty sensor in the passenger seat that had to be replaced. This was done while the truck was under factory warranty. My 2 cents.

SRS and Airbag intermittent on ML55

My ML55 is out of warranty.
I am expecting a scanner which supposedly does airbag faults and see if it works. Maybe it will tell me which sensor is bad.
Thanks
Barry
