Lucas oil products
 

Has anyone used any of Lucas oil products in there benzs. They claim the world but I not so sure if I want to put it in my ML430. That stuff maybe okay for warm weather stuff but I live in the midwest. The temp lately has been below zero. I bet that stuff gets plenty thick.

If you want the best, go with RedLine. If you want the next best, go with Amsoil.

Lucas makes a totally synthetic oil modifier for synthetic oil, it was like water. I bought it to slow down the oil consumption I have. Couldn't tell the difference. The other products I can tell the difference in my other cars, that is, in summer. Says they're to help in cold weather starts too!!!???

I would use Mobil 1 by it's self it protects the best.

I'm talking about there additives. Like trans leak stop and radiator stop and oil additive. Just wondering if it's a bunch of crap.

The additives like trans leak do alot of harm, It swells the seals which make the seals soft and will down the road end up costing you alot more money. On a ML430 the only leak you deal with on those transmissions are the eletrical connector plug those seals leak all the time (it's cheap). And yes it's a bunch of crap. Later

I have always been wary of oil additives, fuel additives, etc. I used Lucas oil stabilizer in our 1992 Range Rover. (3.9L V8) The point was to slow oil consumption. The old Rover had 180k on it and used a quart every 700-800 miles. The reason was due to engine wear. The Lucas cut back consumption to 1 qt per 1200 miles. After using this for many oil changes, it seemed to become less effective. Perhaps this was due to increasing engine wear. We live in NH where it is commonly zero or less in the winter, and this additive did not seem to have an adverse effect in starting or dry starting.

Whether you use it or not I am interested in the oil consumption of ML's. Is the V6 effected the same as the V8 (I know they are a modular engine design). What are common consumption rates? Why the oil consumption?

We are considering buying a 2000 ML320 with 114k on it, 1 owner, Mobil 1 synthetic every 3-4k miles, no leaks underneath. Do all ML's do it?

How many times will you read Mercedes' prohibitions of such additives before you get it?

My ml430 (v8) engine. Uses about 1qt per 5000 miles.

I go through a qt every 1500-2000 miles on my 98 ML320.

No all ML engines (112) engines dont burn oil. Only the ones that go 10,000 miles between oil changes do.

Nor do all M113's (bigger brother of the M112) burn oil. At 60,000 miles my G500 (M113) burns no oil at all between 5,000 mile changes with a filter. I use Redline 10W-40.
