Window switch repair fixed the door lock
My car had a problem with the drivers side window not going up. Sounded like a switch problem to me. I thought about buying a new switch but ran across a DIY which I'm sure you've seen.
http://www.grill.org/rodney/mclass/mlswitch/index.html Anyway, I was having the famed machine gun lock issue, too. The rear passenger door lock was not functional. After doing the DIY, it works again. Might be a coincidence, but I thought I'd let you know. |
It's a $100 switch assy. from Mercedes Benz I would just replace it.

You must be kidding... I fixed it for free. If I spent $100 for everything I could get for free I would be a poor man.
I just was trying to let people know that this MAY also fix machine gun lock issues. |
How much is your time worth ????

I totally agree... it's priceless fixing it yourself.
Also, it takes 10 minutes more time to fix the switch than to replace it. It takes an hour to get to the dealer and back. |
ML window switch module
I replaced the switch module in my 99ML and the 99ML that my girl friend has. It is a fairly easy job. A friend of mine went the repair route, pulling the copper contacts back into proper contact position and he was happy with that. Just a note, the switch module is available from Phil at Fastlane, our parts source here -- and there is no shipping. The price is quite a bit lower than standard MB dealer pricing....... Ben Carter

I vote for coincidence. I don't believe the window switches are in anyway related to the door lock issue. I had the machine gun lock issue and i just can't make a connection between the two. Then again, i am highly mechanically DISinclined.
