2001 ml 270 cdi auto gearbox problems!!!!

i have just spent £1000 with my local mb dealer to repair a gearbox fault the symptems were that it only gave me 2nd and reverse. they replaced the control module i drove about 100 miles with everything ok, went to drive it this morning and the same problem is back, has anybody got any clues as to what might cause the control module to fail ?
