Emissions failed again
 

Hi,

I have a ML230 European and 6 Emissions -Failed this year.
I already change O2 sensor, catalytic converter, spark plugs and MAF.
I spend much money replacing the components and for what?
I already send the car to mercedes and no one can tell me what the problem is

Co = 1,13 must be <0,5%

3000RPM
Lambda close to the limit = 1,03

Could you help me please?

High CO would indicate a vacuum leak, has anyone put a vacuum gauge on the engine to see where it's at during idle. I would start by checking the rubber vacuum distribution fitting plugged in at the rear of the intake manifold, just to the drivers side of center. Part # 112-018-02-09 @ $9.25 for my 98 US ML320. IF this fitting is original, you will find it is crumbling and the syphon tube in the center has probably fallen off. it just pulls straight up to remove.

Another place to check is a small vacuum hose which plugs into the bottom of the intake manifold, front and center. Bad place for rotting hoses under there and you cannot even see where it plugs in. Remove the electric air pump for a little better access. You can feel the fitting and you will probably find one or more vacuum hoses in that area that are leaking.

I am assuming you have done the obvious, and that is to remove the EGR discharge pipe that goes into the intake manifold. The end of that pipe will be carboned up and blocking EGR.
