G500 Steering Problem

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2004 G500. Early last year, I was driving on the freeway. When I hit around 60mph, the whole body shook together with the steering wheel. I tried to slow down and the shaking went away. But when I reached near 60mph again, the shaking came back. So I brought the vehicle to an authorized shop and they said they just have to rebalance the wheels. But after 2 days, they said they are still trying to eliminate the shake and had to replace some other parts. When the vehicle was finally given back to me, it was OK for a few weeks. Then the shaking problem started to come back little by little. So I brougt it back to them. In total, there were 3 trips to that shop and the vibration would only go away for a while. Finally, I was told the problem is "normal" with these trucks and I have to get used to it (horror).

So I decided to bring the vehicle to another nearby authorized shop. The shop supervisor road-tested it and said something is definitely wrong, and contrary to the first shop's pronouncement, it's not something normal. So they fixed it for 3 days with some parts ordered from Germany. The problem was gone, but only for around 8 months. The other day, there was again that slight shaking of the body and the steering wheel. And I'm afraid it will worsen in the next few days or weeks.

I once saw in another forum a comment that one of the cons of this vehicle is precisely my problem. But the writer did not elaborate.

Can anyone help or suggest what I should do?

Thanks.

Soundsto me like a faulty steering damper. You should make sure that they fit the reinforced unit, part number A4634630032. It is beefier than the older one and should last for longer
