P0715, tranny limp mode and fix, quick info needed

I have read all posts regarding this issue. Most seemed to have replaced the electric valve body plate and cleared the code and they are good to go.
Now, I also get the P0173 and P0170 for the fuel trim, i.e. MAF, so most people say.
Would it be advisable to do the MAF first, then see if that helps?
I am far from a dealer and I have cleared CEL codes with the Advanced auto parts generic scanner. Will this get me out of limp mode?

As well, if the consensus is the plate, can someone point me to the part and directions on where this piece is, any pics would be great as well.

Thanks!,
Chris

looking for Dave...in re to P0715 post below

Phil from MBshop said to give you a shout.
I want to verify that with this error i received that the replacement of the conductor plate is the ultimate culprit as well as the course of action before i purchase.

as well, some have mentioned a flooded harness, which one are they speaking of?

btw, I am getting P0170 and P0173 at the same time, pointing to MAF, could this all be MAF related and NOT the conductor plate?

The P0 170/173 have nothing to do with P0 715!

P0 170/173 means that the fuel computer can longer adjust the fuel mixture.

The most common problem is the MAF..approx 95% of the time. Other causes are vacuum leaks & fuel pressure.

The P0 715 is referring to a trans speed sensor problem. That sensor is located in the conductor plate.

MBDOC, sorry for the confusion.
I know that the other codes are directly related to the MAF.
However, a few posts all over the board, this and others, seem to hint that its possible that the MAF failure could cause issues with the tranny as well.

However, with the 0715 code I pulled, it seemed to indicate the conductor plate.

What are your thoughts on this now? Would you do MAF first and reassess or do you think its almost 100% that the conductor plate has to go as well.

Thanks,

Like I suggested... The P0 170/173 have nothing to do with P0 715!

chlubb 01-24-2008 02:28 PM

would there be any other cause for the P0715?

mbdoc 01-24-2008 03:50 PM

No, nothing but the speed sensor can cause that code.

The P0 715 is referring to a trans speed sensor problem. That sensor is located in the conductor plate.

are there any caveats to removing the valve body and the conductor plate other than unbolting it?
i have not been able to find instructions on doing so but most of the pics seem to be straight forward removal of bolts.

also, how much tranny fluid will i lose opening this?

chlubb 01-24-2008 04:22 PM

is there any chance that cleaning the current conductor will help this, some have said that the optical eye can be cleaned and at least temporarily fixed.

sorry for the bombardment but i am in a bind and trying to get this fixed the most efficient way possible.

mbdoc 01-24-2008 04:51 PM

You will need 3.5-4 liters of fluid 001-989-45-03-10. Takes about 1-1.5 hrs.

You will need MB part numbers: 140-270-08-61, 203-540-02-53, 140-271-00-80, & 140-277-00-95.

can the tranny fluid be filled from the top? i have a tube that goes to the tranny, yet it has a security top on it that seems will be broken when opened. are the instructions in the DIY for the 230 tranny fluid refill valid on this car?

mbdoc 01-28-2008 08:08 AM

Yes, you must break the seal & fill thru that filler tube.

chlubb 01-29-2008 07:51 AM

is the tranny dipstick tool still available to determine the level as seen in the DIY?
is there another way to determine without buying the tool?

Hey sorry to hijack your thread but I have the pan off and all the fluid drained (from pan & TC). I was wondering if you can point me to the location of the conductor plate and the tranny speed sensor?

I was getting a P0715 error code.
