Turbo 300GDs?

Hello,

Are there any factory turbo 300GDs?

I have located a few non-turbos but I would really like to get my hands on one with a turbo installed or install one myself.

Has this been done?

Is it recommended?

What kind of modifications are required, etc?

Thanks

No factory turbos. The Swedes had (I think it's no longer available) an after market turbo that was added by Swedish MB dealers for a while.

The only real option you have now is to swap to a sedan 300TD (617A?) engine; and this has been done many times.

I've seen two 617-95X 300GD in my indie's shop, so I think they were made. They could be transplants.

They were transplants. There were no 300GDT's made in the factory.

Now that you've said it twice- have any thing else to back it up?

Here's something- they did make GD with a turbo- but they may not be called a 300GD-nowhere does it say they did not make a 617-95X GD.although that still may be true that there were none from the factory.

Our Success Story

1972

Start of cooperation of Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch on G-Model. An exclusive means of locomotion with recreational character is developed jointly, which can also be utilized for tough everyday use in industrial or communal fields.

1977

Formation of the "Geländewagenfahrzeug GmbH" (GFG) as joint venture of both partners.

1979

Introduction of the all-terrain vehicle Series 460 which was developed in cooperation with Steyr-Daimler-Puch and is built in Graz. Four different models with two wheel bases and five different bodies are available. The model palette spans from 240 GD, 300 GD and 230 G to 280 GE with a horsepower span from 72 to 150 HP.

1981

Formation of the UBG-Beratungsgesellschaft m.b.H. as coordination site for Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch.

1989

To respond to customer requirements, the fundamentally revised models of the Series 463 are introduced in September. They feature passenger car oriented interior as well as permanent all-wheel drive.

1990

Launch of Series 463, the prominent exterior G-shape remains unchanged. The permanent all-wheel drive with disengageable ABS and three electronically engageable 100 % differential locks are presented as world premiere.

1992

The Series 461 replaces Series 460 and remains available for professional users with its robust, reliable design and purpose-oriented equipment . The development competence for the G-Class is transferred from the Development/Daimler-Benz AG to the UBG.

1993

The special model G-Class 500 GE with its V8-engine is introduced to the market. In cooperation with competent partners, the two series are also fitted and offered with passive protection ex factory.

1994

Certification of UBG according to DIN EN ISO 9001.
The 100,000th all-terrain vehicle is produced.
The all-terrain vehicle of the Series 463 is now also available with the 3,2 l-four valve engine of the E- and S-Class. The G 320 replaces the G 300.

1996

The G 300 Turbo Diesel, a new model variety of the G-Class (Series 463) with 177 HP is introduced to the market and replaces the G 350 Turbo Diesel, that has higher cylinder capacity but less output.

1997

The G-Model is the first all-terrain vehicle world-wide to be introduced with an electro-hydraulically controlled canvas top. The new 290 GD Turbo Diesel model (Series 461) features a 120 HP 5-cylinder diesel engine and replaces the 290 GD with its antechamber-induction engine. The G 320 (Series 463) is now delivered with a new 215 HP V6-engine.

1998

Presentation of the G 500 model with a V8-engine, a luxurious classic that finds full product acceptance.
Merger of the Daimler-Benz AG and the Chrysler Corporation to the DaimlerChrysler AG.

1999

20-years-anniversary of the G-Class in Graz.

2000

Presentation of the G 400 CDI (Turbo Diesel) with modifications of the interior to enhance safety and comfort.

2001

Reorganization of the UBG-Beratungsgesellschaft m.b.H. and company name change into DaimlerChrysler Consult Graz GmbH (DCCG).
All business segments of DCCG are moved to a new office building in the "Technologiepark Raaba".
The production of the 150,000th all-terrain vehicle is celebrated in Graz.
First launch of the G 500 G-Model with a V8-engine in the USA and Canada.

2002

Official DCCG opening ceremony in the office building "Technopark Raaba".

23 yrs of driving a G, and 5+ years of moderating two of the largest English language Internet forums for the Mercedes G-Class.

You are correct that other turbo models were made for the W461 and W463 series, but no 300GD turbos or turbo variations of the 617 engine (per the original question) in the W460 series.
