Exclamation Transmission Service ML430

1999 ML430 with a "wet" tranny pan. I understand that there is no service require on transmission fluid because the unit is sealed? What is the procedure for dealing with a leaking pan. can it be serviced by back yard mechanic?
thanks

Sealed for life was eliminated. I believe the current recommendation is 39K miles.

Need factory dip stick (tool) to check fluid level. Use MB fluid for 722.6 (your trans) or 722.9 only.

There were updates to the valve body oring seals. Get a new pan gasket too.

Service the trans! Use a new filter & install recommended magnet as well.

Sealed for life fluids are the biggest HOAX any one could ever come up with

It may not be a leaking pan. The electronic connector adapter for the cable to the transmission ECU is a known problem for leaks; and has been redesigned several times in an attempt to fix them. In a worst case scenario, in addition to a wet pan, the fluid has been known to wick itself up the cable and kill the ECU = Big $$. That adapter is located just above the right front corner of the tranny pan.

This is the part, although the part number on the label has been superseded. Those two O-rings flatten and harden, and start to leak.
