Question Skyview roof Lube

Does anyone know how to lube a Skyview roof? How about what type of lubricant to use? I just hit 161k and i'm not sure if the dealer has ever lubed it before. Trying to do a little preventive maintenance! Thanks!

I've heard vasoline works well on sunroofs due to its pure petroleum properties. It doesent build up like some more heavy weight greases does.

Ive been using Mercury Marine teflon marine grease on the sunroof in my SLC (but mine has more metal parts than plastic) as well as on all other grease points.

I would rather go with the Mercury Marine grease because this roof stretches almost the entire length of the truck and from what it looks like to me the parts are all metal. I can imagine this job emptying quite a few containers of Vasoline!

I decided to call the dealer and ask what did they use to perform this service. The parts guy told me "Mercedes Grease." He said they sold a tub of it for $100.00. Needless to say, I was not buying that!

Then checking on Ebay, I found a guy that actually sells OEM parts for a lot cheaper. He had the Mercedes Grease (this is what it says on the can!) for $28.00! I decided to take a chance on this. When it arrives I will post.

Got the package Saturday. It is actually called "Mecedes Benz Lubrication Paste" and comes in a 1.1 lb container.

Applied it to the rails as well as the pieces of the panels that come in contact with them using q-tips. I was careful to not leave any cotton on the rails or panels.

Roof opens and closes without a sound from anything other than the motor now!

I will post pics tomorrow if not sooner.

Thanks again!
