ML 320 Keyless Entry Failure
Hello to the board and I hope someone has an idea. I have a 2001 ML320 with remote keyless entry (presumed RF). It has worked fine for years but recently got erratic. I replaced the batteries in the remote and no help. I did the synchronization procedure in the manual, and there were some strange results. The sync procedure concludes with saying press either the lock, unlock or lilftgate button. Then check to see that all buttons are operational. Whichever button I press after the syncronization works, but then no more presses of any buttons work. The fact that each button works one time tells me that the key itself is good. I also tried disconnecting the vehicle battery for several minutes to try to reset any errant processors, with no success. Is there any other procedure, short of taking it to the dealer, I can try? Oh, and the second key is temporarily lost. Its in the house somewhere, but we can't find it so we can't try it.
Thanks, Al |

Don't drive yourself nuts. Find the other key. That way you can compare them side-by-side. Eliminating possible key malfunction is the first step in diagnosing central locking issues.

ML RCL problem
Quote:
Frustratingly the system worked properly again but for only one week. I now have to reset the system for every button push. The dealer says I need a new AAM at $1800. Did you find a fix for your situation? If so I would like the details Thank you |

ML 320 keyless entry
The wierdness continues.....my system did exactly the same as yours. My wife and I were sitting in the car and I tried resyncing the system a couple of times with no success. She said "let me try it". When she did it, it worked! System worked for about a week and then quit again. Same symptoms.
$1800 sounds high. IIRC my dealer said the module was around $600 and $100 or so to program it. More labor to install, I presume. I think they've got us there, in that we can't buy the module and install it ourselves as the car will be undriveable until it is programmed. I'm going to checkwith my local independent. But first I may look in the unit to see if there's a backup battery that may have died or something. I had a marine chartplotter that quit working once. The only thing wrong was a backup battery. You wouldn't think that was required to operate, just to retain settings with the power off, but when I changed it, the plotter got well. One thought occurs to me. I believe there is a connection from Tele-Aid to the locking sytem. I wonder if, when the analog cell phone stopped working, that it is somehow screwing up the locks? I'm going to dig around in my maintenance CD and see what I can find. |
