Crankshaft balancer

i have a 2000 ml430 with a knocking noise when i take off fast,i was told it could be the harmonic balancer witch i believe it is in a recall?

Yes Service campaign# 2005020003.
It Effects all M112 V-6 and M113 V-8 engines from 1998 to around 2001 on some cars.

hello all,the other day i ask if there was recall on the harmonic balance on my 2000ML 430.someone on here said they thought it was.i called MB and they said theer are no open recalls,maybe the problem isnt the balancer.when i take off from a start fast there is a shake and nosie seems like it is comming from the front,any help would be great.thanks jim

yes i am in the us.and im not sure weather the recall was done or not,the lady from MB only told me that there was no open recalls.if the recall has been done and the part failed again,isnt that still covered?

The only part numbers (on the part) covered under recall are 112-035-00-00 & 112-035-06-00.

If either number is on your balancer then IT would be covered.

BTW the part lists for $65 & takes about 1.5-2 hrs to install..requires a special tool.

And determining this requires a physical inspection. It certainly can't be done by looking it up on the computer database, unless. . . . . . . . . . . . . his VIN falls outside of those included in the recall.
