low range
Suddenly my ML 320(1999) the low range light is on..pushing the button for low range, the light blinks but stays on..is it safe to drive ? Do I have to have it towed to the dealer or can I drive if I stay under 30 mph.. I am afraid to drive it and have not driven it over 20 mph..put it back in my garage.

Yes, still safe to drive. However the trans might not shift & that isn't a good option.

The vehicle was designed to be used off road. If you don't engage the low range every so often it has a tendency to freeze up. As long as you can disengage the system (the light goes off) it should be safe to drive just fine.
Try excercising the sytem a few times by engaging and disengaging the low range. This often frees up the components. You can then keep the system in working order by shifting to low range at least every 3 months. Properly exercised the transfer case should engage very smoothly. You have changed the transfer case fluid, haven't you? As well as the transmission fluid while you are at it? |

low range
Yes, both fluids have been changed..the whole transfer case was changed a few years ago..
the problem is that even pressing the button, the low range light stays on..so I cannot change from back and forth..when pressing the button, the light blinks and then stays on.. |
