Power Steering Line

Well, I haven't around much to the forum in quite a while.

The ML has been so reliable and trouble free for the past few years.

But a couple of nights ago my wife was driving it home when it decided it was time for a power steering fluid flush.

So the return line on the back of the radiator decided to disconnect itself.

And yes, this was previously "repaired" under the initial recall campaign.

But I got home from a business trip and took a look at it, and the clamp had simply loosened, the line came off the nipple and the fluid discharged under pressure.

On my way home I stopped and bought a couple of liters of Febi / Bilstein PS fluid and some new hose clamps (just in case).

Fixed it in 15m. Reconnected and tightened clamp (7mm). Most of a liter of PS fluid. Drove and turned the rack lock to lock and topped it up.

Finished.

Love simple repairs like that.

But since there appears to be a second recall campaign for this I think I will contact my local dealer and maybe have them take a look at it if its free.

PS - Carquest carries / orders in good German fluids (ie Febi / Pentosin, etc) as well as Redline products.

As a follow up, thanks to the forum for the heads up on the 2nd PS recall campaign.

Local dealer did the work today. They had the kits in stock.

Gratis of course.

Thanks!
