1999 ML430 battery drain after changing low headlight bulb

I have 1999 ML430 and I changed the low beam headlight bulb on the passegers side and allow the truck to sit over night. When trying to start the next day, i find my battery drained all the way down. I replaced the battery with a new one and drove 6.5 hours and the next day battery was drained again. When I jumpstart the car, it shows the BAS/ESP light on the dash. Please helps because It seems like I may have blow a fuse or relay when changing the bulb.

When the battery gets "low" or replaced you need to re-initialized the steering angle sensor. Just turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times with engine running.

AS far as the draw goes that will need to be tested with a volt/ohm meter to see where the draw is coming from.

re-initialized the steering angle sensor

Just to clearfy. To re-initialized the steering angle sensor. do you turn the stearing wheel lock to lock several times in Park or in gear? Can you do a slow row while doing lock to lock (to make it easier on the stearing gears). Also do you have to then turn off the engin and put in the key and turn to Aux but not start the engin for 5 minutes.

I did it while backing up slowly....no need to turn off engine and wait 5 minutes.

Is there a certain direction I should turn the steering wheel? I tried this once and it didn't work. How would this happen if I changed the headlight bulb? Could it be a relay?

The ONLY reason to re-initialize the steering wheel is IF the battery was disconnected & the traction system ESP lamp is ON.

Start car &
Turn the steering wheel either direction to it's stop & then the other direction until it won't turn anymore. That is it.
