Flickering DRLs
Hello:
I'm normally on the diesel section of this forum. I have a buddy though, who has a year 2000 ML wagon with this weird problem that we can't seem to figure out, so hopefully some of the experts here can. The problem is that his DRLs are flickering and flashing when he's driving the vehicle. He's already gotten the finger a few times as people think he's flashing them . From my searches, I found that there's been a recall on some of the VRs on these MLs. Would that be the problem? Isn't the VR part and parcel of the Alternator itself? Any help would be much appreciated. This is a Canadian Spec ML.

The voltage regulator is a replaceable component of the alternator.
Overcharging is a possilility. Checking the voltage as the problem exists would be a good starting point.

Thanks. I will ask him to check and report back here if it was indeed the VR unit. Incidentally, its a 2001 model. Apparently not covered under any kind of recall.
