Does this fuel pump look properly aligned?

I'm replacing the fuel pump and sending unit on my '98 ML320. My fuel gauge has never read above 3/4 full. From reading threads, this is a common problem, and may be caused by an improper pump alignment in the fuel tank.

But, in the attached pictures, it looks right. I'm lining-up the arrow on the pump with the grove in the tank. What else should I look for?
