98 ML 320 Lube Grease smell

Hi Esteemed Group,

It's been a year and two months since I needed help. (I've been beating the smack out of my Volvos instead)
Minor problem I hope: Lately I've been getting a smell of axle/gear grease from the rear(wheel wells or axle) of my ML. Any ideas as to what this maybe? I haven't physically checked yet. But there are no drips.

Thanks in advance,

most likely have blown a CV boot, and it's sprayed the CV grease all over the underside of that corner.

Thanks. I was checking and noticed the boot's pleats were wet when something stung me. The wife then took the vehicle for errands. I'll have to do a thorough check when she gets back.

Thanks again,
