ML430 steering rack adjustment. Any info?
Greetings!
I have a problem with my steering rack being out of alignment somehow. I just changed bushings on passenger side of steering rack. The rack was disconnected from the frame. I disconnected passenger side tie rod and turned steering wheel right and left couple of times to get the rack to fit back into its mounting bracket. After all repairs, wheel alignment went off A LOT. If passenger wheel straight the driver wheel looks like it is turned to right a little bit. I measured distances between front tires front and back. Back distance is about 3/4" farther then front clearly indicating alignment problem. Does anyone know how can I reset steering rack to original setting? I assume that when one tire was on the ground and another tie rod was disconnected and when I turned the steering wheel more pressure was put to the chamber that was pushing the wheel that was on the ground and somehow shortened inner tie rod. Is my theory plausible? I'm afraid that when I do wheel alignment inner tie rod might be in wrong position or something and that can cause steering rack failure. Please help

My mistake. There are two spacer washers that should be on steering rack passenger side. Somehow I misplaced them. After second removal and re-installation of spacer alignment went back to normal. Thicker washer should go under the rack and thinner above. They fell off when I loosen the rack but i thought they came off the bolt and not between the rack itself. What a mishap Anyway, no it's time to do brakes
