Mogs in Moab
Howdy G-Man,
I thought we were a little OT on the other thread so here is a new thread. The Mog people are in Moab starting March 23 through that week which is the week before Easter. Some of the Moggers stay and run with the Jeeps. Moggers that don't take their Mogs are welcome. They run what they brung or hitch a ride in a Mog. Your GW would be a hit with everyone. Here is a website for contact info.www.mogfest.com Regarding the Doka, they are a prized item and people are willing to sell their loved ones to get one Also if you are looking for attachments for your present one I can get a phone# of a guy that deals with that kind of stuff for Mogs. Hope this is useful.

I just had the G out in Moab in Sept. If you looked at the clubgwagen site you may have seen my trail reports and pictures. Two days was not nearly enough, but my wife may think I am nuts wanting to return so soon.We shall see. So is the Mogfest before the Jeeper Jamboree? I had thought they were the same week.
I will have a Doka, just a matter of time now. That one will be refurbished and set up for wheeling. A 404 would be cool but I think I may stick with the 416 to get hydraulics and air compressors that are built in. I also like the crawler gears my 416 has. I have Gwagen plans too. With the advent of the MBUSA G500 there seems to be a new market for off-road acessories, formerly difficult and expensive to get. So I need a winch/bumper, rock sliders, slight lift, etc. I think I have more projects than time! Brent

Howdy G-Man,
I thought that was your site but wasn't sure (Great pics). I sent that to several friends and they said nooooo way would they do that with such an expensive vehicle So many people show up on both sides of Easter weekend it kind of mixes together, but the Mogs are officially there that first week starting the 23rd. Is your current 416 a 20 speed?¿ If I see anything I'll let you know. I have just started to get the idea I would lie to get a Gwagen to replace my Jeep YJ. I need something to transport my dog to competitions in something a little more comfortable. (She hates that Jeep). The Jeep has good 4x4 manners but I need something that has both road and 4x4 abilities beyond the standard SUV. So are there any Gwagens out there that are in the $20,000 range that are mechanically sound?¿ Thanx.

Frank,
$20k is the low end for a nice Gwagen. $15-25k will get you a 460 chassis G. The best choice (most powerful) is the 280GE. They are still kind of slow, not Unimog slow, but downshift for the hills slow. The interior appointments are on the LR Defender order, very simple. The 4wd is a part time with front and rear lockers on 99% of them. Living in CA presents another problem, you are very familiar with the smog regs I am sure. If you are interested, or even just curious, take a trip up to San Jose and see Norm at Keiser Motors. He has something like 18 Gwagens in stock right now, all CA certified. He has a sight with inventory pics and prices, it will give you an idea of what is out there. http://www.keisermotors.com My 416 is a 20 speed, it is also a long box with the three way tipper. It had the Schmidt mount on the front which I have fitted a 10' snow plow to, talk about unstoppable. I would like to have a Mercedes "C" winch with mounts for the front, otherwise I am quite pleased with it. The Moab trip was fun. On Sunday it was just my G320 and two Europa(expensive) G500s. Those guys were great sports, I only heard minor whimpering in the beginning. It is amazing what even rookies can accomplish with such a capable machine. I got them hooked though, they will be back.

Howdy G-Man,
Thanx for the info about Keiser motors. I sent an e-mail to them asking about a 1981 280GE for $19,995.Also asked if they had anything not listed on their site. I lusted over the G320's. Seems to be a well appointed vehicle and to be a 4x4 makes it that much better( you must be a proud papa) LOL. On the subject of winches. The MB winch is a very rare bird. My Unimog parts dealer has been searching the world for a year for me and nothing yet. If nothing comes up in 6 months I will start looking for a Werner winch. The people that know both winches say you can't go wrong with either one. Well time to go look at some more pics.
