G Wagen would have been nice
I wish I'd had one last night. It took me four hours to get home from work (7 miles) last night in the snow in my CLS. Of course the CLS was fine as long as I kept moving, but that's not an option in an area like Washington, DC with so much traffic.
Anybody have any good stories about how your ML or G Wagen got you home faster in adverse conditions? |
I have some videos of the G in the snow...
I would post them, but some member here would not approve. With that being said, the G is quite heavy... We could not get it to stop rolling down a hill, and eventually slid into a snow bank. :( |
My friends got stuck in the snow and I had to push it out because the moron dealer put summer performance tires on it!:D
I'm still making fun of him for that.:D |

Did he turn them on before or after he got stuck? |
All the lockers where on, spins all 4 nicely.
Problem with the wheels on newer G's is the real lack of good off road tires made in that size. Most people run them on the road so they only put performance tires on them which is BS. My friends Silverado with good tires had no issue going through the snow and we almost had to get him to pull the G500 out!:D http://www.cherokeeforum.com/attachm...fc-2095155.jpg This is really what he needs, but they only have make them bigger which would probably throw the speedo off. To bad their isn't a good 16 or 17 inch wheel made for the new G's, maybe with a good bead lock even! |
Yeah Geolander tires are the usual stock set. They are ok but not really good on anything beyond light snow or dirt.
Not too sure about the speedo getting thrown off but it should be a relatively easy fix on a STAR system. However if you're running real mud/snow tires I would think that highway cruising isn't your priority and a slightly off speedo wouldn't be a concern. I have to double check the largest tire size a G can take stock (it's somewhere in the 30-35 range) EDIT: A W460 needs to be slightly modified to take 35 inch tires. However they can be fitted to a W463 without trouble. |
The BFgoodrich Traction TA's are pretty good on the highway, I plan on putting them on my truck next. They are also E rated so a lot thicker than the stock tires.
Right now he has some new but cheap Korean Falkon tires or something like that on it. They belong on a cheap sports car, in the snow they are useless. |

You know, they make a 4" suspension lift for the Gs....

Then again, I was doing WOT in low range smoking them up the ramp, so its win win. |
Luckily my other friend as a 3/4 Silverado with some proper rubber and a winch on it so the G can be extracted from whatever it gets stuck in.:D
Always good to have a real truck like a Chevy around.:P:D |
