MAS on a 2000 ML-320 replaced BUT CEL light is still on?
Ok Esperts, I replaced the MAS sensor on the 2000 ML-320 as the dealer code indicated that it was faulty.
The CEL was on when I replaced it today. After replacing the MAS the CEL did not go out. I was told that it takes 30-40 miles of driving for the MAS to adapt or recalibrate the system and about 40 on / off cycles of the ignitation switch to finally reset the CEL light to OFF. Anyone have some first hand experience on the issue? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |
you can reset the CEL by disconnecting the battery (be sure to have your radio codes on hand), or with an OBSII device (see AutoZone, above). Otherwise, it's 40 key cycles, not miles. One could assume that even if it took 50K-60K miles to fry your original MAS, your new one (assuming it is new) should survive a while, even if you don't correct the fault that caused it (see air cleaner, above). IMHO, if it's running well, you're okay.

MAS replaced on ML-320 CEL stayed on.
Well I replaced the MAS last night on the ML, the CEL stayed on.
Was advised to drive it for a few days and after about 40 cycles of the ignition switch it should go out. Or Goto Auto Zone and have them reset it. So I visited AutoZone and they scoped it with their OBD II. Read 4 codes MAS, left and right fuel trim and air temperature sensor malfunction. They tried 3 times to reset the codes but their reader kept coming back with all 4 codes present. So I thanked them and drove away. The CEL was OUT !!! Wonderfull !!! I'm guessing the ML had to be turned off (the ignition switch) and restarted in order to finalize the resetting sequence. The engine was NOT running while connected to the OBD II reader. Anyone have that experience? Thanks |
