ML320

The secondary air pump on the emissions system was replaced two years ago and I just had to replace it again. Does anyone have an idea what the life expectancy should be on one of these?

Failed emissions with codes PO442 and PO410
Stated that the evaporative emissons control system has a small leak. Any ideas where this might be leaking?

Is there any way to clear the codes without taking it to a dealer?

thanks!

The air pump itself is a pretty reliable part. The relay that controls it is another story. The contacts can actually weld themselves together causing the pump to run until it fails.

The common leak in the evap system is the gas cap, but there are other possiblities too, and testing can get pretty involved.
The other thing that's fairly common on the 163 chassis ML is the canister shutoff valve, which is located above the rear bumper.

Just because you got code P0 410, you shouldn't assume that the pump is the cause.
As noted the relay can be an issue.

There are many other possibilities as well, switchover valve, diverter valves, vacuum lines, O2 sensors, & even blockage in the heads.

got the 410 code the other day, pulled the plastic cover off the top of the motor and jumped the pump and it worked but did find a vac. line loose so far no more code
