Please help ML 1999 430, stopped in traffic , no crank, no start
Hi all,
Have lurked and tried to research my problem , and could really use any help or input you could give me. About one month a ago my car died in traffic a few miles and minutes from starting it and driving. Lost all power and luckily got it into a side street. Went back had it jumped, to no avail later that night after fiddling with battery contacts and everything got it home. Put a new battery in. No problems for another month. Then after a couple hour uneventful trip, got it home. Went to run a quick errand same thing. Had to have it pushed home, now won't start. No crank, no interior lights, no windows, no locks, no hazard lights, no interior fan. The radio works, windshield wipers work , headlights work. High beams work. Only SRS and airbag light on Ok sorry for long post....lol Tried: Cleaning battery terminals, alternator and all the way back to starter. Battery at 12. 5 Not sure of amps but just replaced. Voltage drop test- no drop in voltage when turning ignition. Tried testing fuse 26 - no start Tried starting in neutral no start looked for loose wires , or corroded not that I see By passed terminal 3 and 5 on K 8 fuse- car tries to start but nothing checked starter by jumping off positive once again tries to start but nothing ( meaning will at least try to crank) I do have voltage across fuse board. Tried to change K 12 relay with others in fuse box to no avail Checked fuses with voltmeter and ok. Can get a test light if you suggest. Looked under fuse box and that as well as AAM seem to look good no corrosion. I did resynchronize my key after first event a month ago to get the remote locks to work and did work so don't think it is a key issue. Also there is no crank or start then died . Which led me to eliminate, hope I am right on this. Only thing is did change batteries in my two fobs since last incident and not sure if that is the issue. When try to start (with no crank) headlights stay bright so not sure if ignition switch bad, can replace but closed dealership part place usually closed around my work schedule. It is also more then 2 hours away so don't want to pay towing and trying to eliminate all and fix myself. SO appreciate and thankful any help in advance. |

Have you tried jumping the K12 circuit 15 relay, possibly the ignition switch OR the AAM isn't turning on that KEY-ON power circuit.
