Brake problems

99 ML w 149k miles. BAS/ESP and ETS lights came on today. I have noticed recently a whoosh sound when i release the brake..... a vacumn type of noise. I have also noticed the brake pedal does travel a little when i am sitting at a stop sign. I think I may need a master cylander. Hoping I don't also need a booster. Is the booster an all or nothing type of repair or do parts get replaced.
Had brakes flushed @5k miles ago.
Am I in danger driving this? i feel no loss of power the manual talks about.
Thanks very much in advance for ideas.

I am original owener of 99 ML 320 and have 275,000 miles on it. Heard the same whooshing sound from inside the cabin in the area of the drivers foot well. Took it to my indie and he diagnosed leaking brake assist diaphram(s). Funny thing is I never noticed a change in the pedal modulation. Brakes have felt very firm in this vehicle since I've owned it. I beleive his repair estimate was around $800. Since it's such an old vehicle and he assured me nothing catastrophic would happen if I didn't get it fixed, I've just been driving it like this for the last year or so.
