2002 G500 Electronics
I took delivery of my new G-wagen in December. I have had a major problem with the ESP/BAS fault messages. If anyone else is having the same problems, I can let you know what parts and tests have been performed. Needless to say, the dealer knows little about servicing this vehicle.

G500 electronic panel
Steve, Just got my G500 2 weeks ago, and everything else ok,
but, the emergency system for airbag appeared stayed on. Next day disappeared. Now I just had it trucked into the dearler ship yesterday, with a red panel light for battery/laternator visit workshop flash on and off. Checked it out, they don't see any light or problem. What is the deal? They have one mechanic that has been to a class on this vehicle and no one else knows anything about the car. The tech that came to my house didn't even know where the battery was! Are these similar to your problems? MHofmann |

G500 Electronics
My problems were directly related to the Diff locks and the "fault" messages appearing stating the ABS and Traction control systems were not on. It took 9 days for them to figure out how to fix the problem, but in the end they didn't know why the problem occurred. Same at my dealership, they just went to class on how to service the G. It is not normal for ANY fault or malfunction messages to appear during operation. Unless of course, there is a bona fide malfunction. Keep us updated.

esp/bas faults
I had one of these faults on a brand new 2002 g500 as I was driving home from the dealer. It came on right after I braked hard because someone cut in front of me.
I will be bringing it to the dealers attention when I next visit, sometime within the next week. I am curious as to what you have encountered. |

It is however quite normal for the display to flash ABS and Trac control systems disabled when you select any diff lock. It is not a fault, just a lawyers warning built into the electronics. I tried out my wifes new G500 yesterday. I selected low range and all of the lockers on a sandy surface. You sure do get a lot of BS flashing at you in the display. Once I went back to high with no lockers(normal) everything was fine, no fault messages.
On my '95 the only thing you get is an ABS warning light when a locker is engaged, not nearly as annoying as the '02. This is normal as well. There is no way for ABS or Trac control or stability control to work if you have it all locked up. These systems get their info from wheel speed sensors. If you have it locked, all the wheels turn at the same speed so the systems have no referance. I do wish the '02 system would chill out some on all the warnings
