'99 ML430 Engine Mount Noise?
I have a noise....sounds like a classic engine mount collapsed noise at 10 to 45 mph under mild acceleration.
Anyone else experiencing same? I had it on the lift today and found right rear lower ball joint worn and track arm end worn on same wheel allowing the wheel to steer about half a degree off....accounts for the 'bump thump' from that end. I looked at both engine mounts but they appear to be passive solid rubber and both look in good shape with some movement in them when I pried the engine....I expected them to be hydraulic type. Drivers side looks to be a difficult one to get to. All fluids clean in both final drives. At 75 cruise vehicle is very quiet. Quieter than the 2000 Bentley Red Label I drove recently. Anyone care to comment? . |
Not hydraulic mounts?? That surprises me!

Here they are on 'Parts Geek'.. Search for : ML430 Engine Mounts...a voided vee engine mount, obviously not hydraulic for $20.00. ( Sorry...URL link doesn't seem to work .) . |
163 mounts are all rubber. Most fail around 100k. They are easy to change and usually make a noticeable difference. Remember to recheck your fan clearance when your done.
