BAS/ESP Light

I am the original owner of a 2001 ML320 with about 188,000 miles. A few weeks ago the BAS/ESP warning light started coming on (ETS light is still off/normal) and traction control (yellow triangle in dash) comes on when making sharp left turns.

Dealer ran diagnostics and said lateral sensor and ME (2500+ in parts and labor) both need to be replaced. I am wondering if the ME is required for the BAS/ESP to function properly? Remote key and fuel gauge stopped worked a while back and I don't care to fix those given the age of the car - I am not sure if those are affected by the ME. I just want to fix the BAS/ESP issue and I am wondering if replacing the lateral sensor will be sufficient?

Update on the above issue. Replaced the lateral acceleration sensor and BAS/ESP light is now cured.
