2001 ML320 and the AAM
Hi!
We have a 2001 ML 320 with about 115,000 miles on it. The remote key fob is no longer working and our dealer told us that it's the AAM. They also warned that if it is not replaced, the vehicle may eventually not recognize the key in the ignition and might not start. Is the AAM on this vehicle related to that issue? Or any other concerns related to not replacing the AAM? We'd like to get 2-3 more years from this vehicle and probably another 5000 miles total. Any input welcome! Thanks, Lance |

Is the problem present when using your spare key?

Yes, the problem persists with both key fobs. We tried new batteries and reprogrammed both. Sill no response so we have just opened and locked it manually the past week or two.

I have a 2001 ML320 also - the remote key stopped working over 30,000 miles ago (dealer also told me AAM needed to be replaced). However, using the key to manually lock/unlock the car has not been a problem and also no issues with starting.
