What are the steps to remove the rear view mirror on my 1999 ML430? Attached is a picture showing the mirror mount to the windshield.

Thank you very much,

Jim

After starting this thread and getting no replies I continued to look for the answer to my question. The answer is in the attached pdf.

I followed the instructions and easily removed my mirror. At first, Step 3 was not totally clear to me. It's this simple--the lower portion of Part #2 depicted in Step 3 fits down over both sides of the windshield mount. This lower potion easily slides straight up over the narrow portion above. Once this is moved up, tightly grab the base of the mirror where it attaches to the windshield mount with your fingers and rotate the mirror base 90 degrees. I rotated it clockwise, but I think it would also rotate counter clockwise and release. The rotation takes some force, but nothing extreme. The base is spring loaded and pops down and out leaving the windshield mount..

I sent my mirror to Sybesma's Electronics in Holland, Michigan for replacement of the glass. The replacement will automatically dim just as the original. Their fee is $97 including return shipping. They can only repair certain models but mine was repairable.

I hope this helps someone else.

Jim
