Unimog made by Mercedes?????
my step father (billybob) and i went to NY a few months ago to pick somthing up and as we came around a turn in the road we saw about 20 Umimogs :D in this small grassy area and immediately pulled over and took a few pic's. the next day in school i was telling this story to a friend and all of a sudden he laughed and said, " Unimog???? what kind of truck is that??" so i started to explain it to him but he wouldn't listen. then he said " i bet you that there is no truck named Unimog!" so i told him to go to this site and see for him self, so now he thinks that Unimogs were only made like 50 years ago and that they were an independent company.
so if any one can find the history of Unimogs in relation to Mercedes it is very much appreciated:) |
thanks bill I'll try it!:)

Howdy MB,
The Unimog was first built right after WW 2 by a company by the name of Boehringer as an agriculture vehicle to help Germany recover from the war. Mercedes took over and started production in 1951. The Mog is still being built. Here is another site for you to look at. www.rockymountainmoggers.com Also check out the Mog websites I have posted in this forum. There are a couple videos on the websites. Welcome to the forum. |

Kinda puts the whole ML vs G-Wagon thing in perspective. We all bow to the Unimog!
|
WELL.............. "Sort of puts it perspective. "The G and ML are daily drivers. As a Unimog owner, I don't think I would reccomend that:D
|
There if an article in the December 2002 issue of Mercedes Enthusiast, with different pictures of how the vehicle is being used.

Speaking of Unimogs...anyone following the Dakar Rally? The Mercedes family is doing pretty good:
Unimogs are sitting 9th and 10th in the 4x4 truck class as of stage 12. Seeing them next to the giant Tatras, Kamaz and DAF trucks is kinda funny! A G400 TD (car #235) driven by Jacques Loomans of Belgium is 55th overall, in the super production diesel class. A BMW X5 in the same class is in 13th place overall and has been getting a lot of TV coverage. An ML430 is 1st in the production gas class and 11th overall. Car #220 is driven by Jean-Pierre Strugo and Pascal Larroque of France. Considering the ultra-specialized vehicles that dominate the rally, their high position as a production class vehicle is simply amazing! You can follow the action on Speed Channel every evening until Jan. 20 and at www.dakar.com. The website is rather difficult to navigate but worth the effort. |
