High Mileage 07 ML CDI

I am happy to report that my trusty ML diesel has just passed 210,000 miles.
I bought it new and maintain it properly.
The engine may be a bit louder now but it still runs and drives great.
I use it for my daily 100 mile round trip hi way commute and it has never let me down. Plus it is great in the snow.
I hope to make the quarter million mile mark in this beast.
thanks

you should be able to hit 350,000 miles

jay_bob 12-10-2014 06:35 AM

Did you apply for the 250,000 km award yet?

Any major repairs or issues? Have you had to replace the DPF?

Sorry for delayed reply.
How do I apply for the 250,000 km badge? I would proudly wear it.
I am glad to hear you think I can hit 350 K miles. The car at this point has so little resale value ( my MB dealer is telling me $5 K or less) that a major repair like transmission or engine work could approach that, but until something breaks I will keep on trucking.
The big repair items so far have been:
- crank shaft position sensor and transmission control module( forget name), both repaired under warranty.
- new starter, my cost.
- new rear shocks, my cost.
The big P in the A was the leaking rear roof hatch that allowed water inside and ruin the automatic rear hatch motor . At one point I had 5 gallons of water sloshing around down there. They removed drain plugs below and sealed the leaks on top. They would not pay to replace the fried motor so I just operate it manually.
Overall for my needs, the ML has been superb. That 7 speed trans is a vast improvement. It is always in the right gear like it reads your mind. The car is a rocket ship and probably the fastest of the 14 MB's I have ever owned.
If something happens I would just get the same car in a newer model year. The only issue would be the run flat tires on the ML Blutecs. That may force me to get a gasser ML350 but I would hate to leave the diesel propulsion.
All good.

The dealer service advisor has the form for the high mileage award. 250/500/750 km and 1 million miles.

I agree with your other points. Ours drives great and pulls trailers like nobody's business.

Have you had issues with oil leaks? Mine was starting to leak the tar on the ground, found the orange boot between the $500 Y-pipe and the turbo inlet was torn. Replaced that (~$20 part) and the leaks seem to be diminishing. Need to go in there and clean out behind the under body pans, just need to find time to do that. Knock on wood my oil cooler is holding up for now.

In the ML range, the last year without AdBlue and real tires is 2008. Hence that is why I own that year model. DEF aka "cat pee" is a joke. We have to deal with that on generators in the more "enlightened" states. Stuff stinks just like a tom cat sprayed all over the inside of the generator house.

Thanks Jay Bob, I will persue my high mileage badge at my next oil change.
Yes I had the oil leak by the turbo inlet early on and it was fixed under warranty. It was the inexpensive rubber boot that you mention.
I don't mind the urea. I have read that the urea treatment is a less restrictive way of dealing with the emissions then the filtering in our CDIs. As a result the blutec engines have a bit more horsepower.
I just wish that the MB design engineers would figure a way to fit both the spare tire and the urea tank in the car.
I have never read a positive thing about run flats. I would accept a rear tire carrier ala the original G wagon. Good rear crash protection too.

Amen to that. Before I started driving the Mercedes I was driving the CR-V. A lady in an Expedition rear ended me in stop and go traffic. She was probably doing about 15 or so. She bounced off my rear spare. It totaled the Expedition and tweaked the hinges on my back door.
