2007 R320 no start, code p0088

Wife's CDI is on my trailer after failing to start at work.

Here is timeline of problem: drove on a weekend trip last week and it threw code P0088, fuel pressure too high, but ran fine and got us home fine.

Drove to work Monday and it shut off on her, but restarted. Smell of fuel underhood. Threw code p0088 and p0087 (fuel pressure too low). Car went in limp mode but got home. I saw no obvious fuel leaks on the rails, filter or hpfp but strong fuel smell. Found a loose turbo hose, repaired and cleared codes.

Drove to work next day and went back to limp mode. When went to leave work, it will crank but not start, and I have code P0088 again and strong fuel smell.

What is a good diagnostic path to take given these conditions?

Thanks in advance!!

So, got a chance to dig into it this morning and found the lift pump in the tank is not , well, lifting. All associated fuses good, just no fuel or pump noise when in on position.

Anyone have first hand experience or a pdf of this repair they can post😀??? Please!!!!

Thanks!!
