Parts for Mercedes 1116 truck

Hello, I am new to this forum. I have been on Pelican Parts for Porsche for a while (same user name there). I recently bought a 1979 Mercedes 1116 diesel truck. These were made in Argentina under license from Mercedes and imported by Freightliner. The trouble is that the parts numbers for the trucks made in Argentina are different than for the ones made in Germany. Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations for a parts source? Thank you, Tom

Have you tried the Freightliner dealer network? Mercedes owns Feightliner and a bunch of other truck companies.

Also, what are you looking for? Many large truck parts are semi universal and can be had on the open market.

Thank you for your reply. I haven't tried Freightliner but that is a great idea as they imported these trucks. I am mostly looking for oil/fuel filters, fan belts and hoses. This is not actually a semi, but rather like an extra large pick up. the 11 refers to the tons it is rated to carry and the 16 its horsepower (multiply it times 10). I will call the local Freightliner dealer.

A photo would be nice to see what this looks like.

Ok, going to try to post a couple of pictures I took today. You can see how under built the rear axle is, couldn't they have put a few more bolts there.....

A lot of these trucks were brought into the US in that era. For filters, look in at industrial duty filter makers like Baldwin , Wix and a couple of others I can't think of at the moment. Pulling numbers off the old parts helps too.

It would be better to stop by a Freightliner dealer, ( if possible an older established one that sold these trucks in the day ) if you call at a busy time they are likely to just say they don't have any records. Having a pic and getting them involved in the fun of getting this truck going can produce results.

I have a 79 1116 as well. I was able to get some parts including a windshield via Jim Ince. Talk to him and he might be able to help.

What is chassis-Nr. of this truck?

We had these all over in Saudi Arabia, where I grew up (that's my father on a SCUD missile). I'd love one of these in a 26' box truck so I could have my own delivery business.
