W163 as an off road vehicle?
So what are these early SUV's like as a Jeep/sort of tractor type use (totally off road, bush use). I believe they have a two speed transfer case right? They are popping up around me for $400-1000 for sale, far cheaper then any other 4X4 with a transfer case and nice size for bush work.
Any comments? I have driven one in the past for various tasks (work-boss owned one) but never off road. |

I'm coming up with a Borg Warner BW4409 . This is a full time 4WD 2 speed unit that lacks a locking center differential.
According to Transfer Case There is a 50 / 50 torque split until Oct 98 then it changed to 48 / 52 F - R . Ford tends to use BW transfer cases so it may be possible to add part time 4WD ( with a lock position ) by mixing parts. |

Crawling through the woods requires a soft long travel suspension to keep all 4 wheels on the ground. ( and no sway bars )
Our guy needs to define the conditions he will operate under. |

unit body will work fine for putting around the woods and besides, the LM in questi9on has a frame. The most direct route to accomplish what our guy wants to do is push the suspension up an inch, do a 2 inch body lift and install taller tires. |
