2006 ML500 engine quit while idling will not restart
We have had it for 6 months, 196k miles runs great until the engine quit (made a sputter like running out of fuel) while it was sitting for about 20 minutes at idling with the AC on (the headlights were also on) and will not restart.
It turned over and sputtered, did that twice then it would not even sputter. Plenty of fuel had just put 20 gallons in earlier in the day. Had it towed back to the house. Checked the rear relay and fuses all are good. Pulled the fuel pump cover off , pulled the plug off and with the ignition on no voltage, while cranking over 10.7 volts. Is the fuel pump energize with the key in the on position? Battery is showing 11.6 so I ordered a new battery from NAPA, the NAPA one that is in it show's 5 years old. Any suggestions on what else to check? Thanks |
I don't have an ML, but I've owned a '04 E500 and currently own a '00 G500 which both have the same M113 engine as you do.
Though not ideal a voltage 10.7 should be enough to run the pump. I would first look at things like crank position sensor (rear top of engine left side) and then cam position sensor (front of engine where cam would be right side). I'd think those would likely throw a check engine light but didn't always happen on my E500 which was always doing something wacky electronically. Best of luck. |
