2000 ML320 brakes

I'm getting ready to replace the brakes (AGAIN!). I'm considering an aftermarket pad to reduce dust and increase life. Does anyone have any experience with pad such as "porterfield" or kevlar-based pads? I'm concerned about exact fit and noise. thanks.

I'm using MINTEX brake pads from germanstar

After using these brake pads I will never use OEM again.. the brake dust has been cut down to 60% at least. they are affordable as well, and come with brake sensors. but the occasionally squeeling, when the roads are wet.

Using the Mintex pads here also.

Looking foward to reduced dust-age.

Noticible difference in pedal profile. I'll post a pic of the two pads side by side soon.

Robert,

What do you mean by a difference in the pedal profile?

Thanks...

pedal profile

Tracy,

It's a challenge to describe in a forum but here goes.

With the old pads and new (full) brake fluid while braking during 40mph in normal stoplight to stoplight driving, there seemed to be a very small window between 'light drag' and 'nose dive' stopping. Light drag meaning not enough stopping power and nose dive meaning the wife's left hand clamped on my right arm.

Finding the area so as to make a nice, safe, and smooth contolled stop was tough and frustrating to say the least.

Upon installation of new pads, the brakes noticibly grab with better clamping force earlier. Following imagery speaks volumes.

almost on the sensors

I just got done replacing brake pads on 00 ML 320, from MB factory to Mintex and I feel a good difference in braking. These pads seem to grab better, hence better braking.

Thanks, Robert!!!

I’m not entirely sure what I'm looking at. The bottom pix seems to be an image of old vs. new pads. What is the upper pix?

Also any idea if the Mintex pads will cause faster rotor wear?

"better braking" means it feels like you need less braking effort to achieve same level of braking power with Mintex than with the factory pads (seem to grab better).

Tracy,

You are correct in that the bottom pic is a old vs. new comparison. Little difference in pad thickness eh?

The upper pic is of the entire brake caliper. The gap between the pads is where the Rotor resides.

If you notice the top of the right-hand side pad, that is the brake sensor. When this begins to rub on the rotor for very long, it will toss a light on your instrument cluster (read: very important to change ASAP).

I'm not familiar with Mintex wear vs. MB OEM. At the next brake pad change interval when the rotors are included, I may investigate Hawk High Performance brake pads...
