Judge my paintjob price
So i wenta this auto shop which looks descent because it got a couple of Lexus and Jaguars there. Went in and got a quote at first for painting my bumpers and moldings match car color, the guy told me $900 cash. I am like fine, that sounds descent. So i set up the appointment, which is about a month later... when i got there, he said he didnt remember that he gave me an accurate estimate already last time... and he told me it will cost $1500!! So i calmly told him what he quoted me last time.. he tried to argue for a little while, and at last agreed with the original price(900). My truck recently got keyed at the back(deep with dent! ) and i also got a painted fender flares that needs to be installed... so i asked him what wouldthe price be all together. He said $1400.
I just wanna know if they ripped me off on the keyed fix... cuz installin the flares + painting bumpers and moldings is only 1000.. so that means the scratch alone cost $400?? I dunno really know whether or not its reasonable... so i hope u guys can help me out! Thanks! |

I work at a big shop in vancouver...
for painting the bumpers, mirrors, and side panels, I charge only $700 canadian dollars.. that is equivalent to $440 US.. I think u're getting ripped off.. my shop mainly does insurance claims..

Of course it also doesn't say much for how that shop values its own reputation, worth less than $10 I'd say.

yea... i definitely made a very bad decision to go there. Not that $10 worth much, just that the morals are wrong. Actually, i didnt really have a choice... cuz i already did some research around the area.. and they all quoted me sky high quotes.. somewhere close to $2000..

Even the dealership did my body cladding (bumpers and side moulding) for $1500.
Actually, I did a swap when I purchased a Skyview ML320 in 99. Family didn't care for it, so I took possession of a similar 99 ML with the moonroof instead. The difference in MSRP was $1500, so I asked them to paint the rest of the panels in body color.
