idle speed compensation

Can anyone advise if there is a separate device on a 98 ML-320 engine that compensates for idle speed?

For instance, when the AC compresor switches on while the engine is idling, is idle speed regulated by a separate valve or solenoid or is all fuel management strictly handled by the engine computer operating through the fuel injectors.

Thanks.

It's integrated into the engine control (ME) control module. Primarily, it's controlled by a part called the throttle motor.
